I have both and the display is good on the 996p2. They are right that simulcast problems are big.

thinking about buying a 996P2. How good are the filters in the 996P2 on vhf ? My BC780xlt and BC700A get over loaded with intermod. I use a kenwood TK730G to fix the intermod problem but I can not program it as easily. and it only receives vhf .

Are you talking about interference on the air-bands? The 996P2 is excellent. If you don't require digital capabilities, consider the BCT15X for about 1/3 the cost!

Have problems with vhf fm on closely spaced frequencies . When 155.490 and 155.550 transmit at the same time I receive them both on 155.670. Could be a harmonic generated by two freqs mixing. 154.325 comes in on 155.340. When I am close enough to see police vehicle and it is tansmitting I cant hear repeater output on scanner.

I dobt you have the same problem with the BCD992P2. The BC780XLT while still widely in use and highly respected, it's getting a little long in the tooth!

It sounds like the BC780XLT creates some of it's own problems (Birdies):
