• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Kenwood TK 5820-K that I have programmed quite a few times before. I downloaded the programming software KPD-112D version 2.01 and I get the following message. The firmware on the radio is 2.10.00 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The configuration data in the transceiver contains the configuration data for a function which cannot be read from the transceiver. To read the configuration data, the latest version of Field Programming Unit must be installed.

It sounds like you need the most up to date software version for the current version of firmware in the radio.

Thats what it looks like. However this is the same software I always used, the radio has been in my truck since 2012. Never sent out for repair or firmware update. Weird.

Latest firmware for that radio is 2.21, released October 2017.
KPG-112DN latest version 2.33, released in Jan 2016.

The error message suggests that your software is too old. Did someone else program it at some point?

I'm the only one who has done programming on this radio from day one. Thats what's so weird. I sent Kenwood an Email asking how I go about buying the latest software. I haven't heard anything back yet.

Contact your dealer. If you contacted Kenwood directly they likely won't be much help, if you are lucky, they'll forward it to a local dealer.

Wondering if something got corrupted in your software. Have you tried doing a rip-n-replace on the KPG software?
