My HP laptop died on Friday. Had ALL my programming software on it. I managed to recover all the install packages off the hard drive(thankfully it did not fail), and I am starting over with a clean Win7 64bit install on a CF-19 Centrino 2 @ 1.2Ghz w/ 3Gb of ram.
It’s a slow process, installing all my software from scratch but in the end I will have my programming computer back. Plus is that it has a real RS-232 port. I won’t have to use a USB<->Serial dongle anymore for any Vertex radios.
Unlike a lot of folks, all my USB cables have Prolific chipsets. I have never had any issues with Prolific. Ever. They just have worked for me.
I don’t mess with any radios that require DOS based RSS/software very often, and if I do, I have an old beat up, dual boot toughbook that has a pooched main battery and a dead CMOS battery that I can drag out to program Maxtrac/GM300 ectera.
