From a retired LEO perspective most radar detectors are pretty worthless unless you're running in a herd. And if I stopped someone for speed it wasn't an automatic ticket, I would listen to what they had to say before making a decision. But if they had a detector it was an automatic ticket regardless of what they had to say. It the game that's played, I'm trying to find them, they're trying to find me, if I find them first, I win.
That's a pretty unfortunate outlook, being someone who never intentionally speeds and uses a radar detector mostly for testing purposes so I can better assist customers, but I was afraid that police may view it that way.

I have a Uniden Model GPSRD radar decector with a built in GPS. It shows me my speed with a digital readout. Is also shows my direction. Would that make a difference?

In the view of most LEO’s , not all, the possession and use of a radar detector shows an intent to not only speed but not get caught speeding.

Not to me, but like my previous comment, I can’t speak for other LEO’s , but it’s a pretty universal mind set.

Whether someone is using a radar detector or not, who intends to get caught speeding??? If speed limits were set at the 85th percentile as traffic engineers suggest, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Whoever uses a radar detector or not has no effect on me whatsoever. I was just sharing personal first hand knowledge to those who do and not quoting some obscure information from an unknown or unsubstantiated source.

I just recently drove from San Antonio to New Orleans with an SDS100 / GPS puck and a Escort Max360c radar detector and didn't have any problems. I have definitely turned off X-band on the radar detector because of the amount of false alerts that you'll get from roadside measuring equipment and other non-radar alerts.

K band is definitely still in use around Texas, and the Max360c does a great job of eliminating almost all false alerts for vehicle lane assist sensors... it's the best radar detector I've ever owned, and even updates itself when I pull into the garage with the latest database and firmware over Wifi. I sure wish Uniden could incorporate the GPS/Wifi chipset they use into their scanners for the same type of capabilities.

I'm not a big "speeder" per se, but I use a radar detector for two primary reasons
1) I drive a BMW M5 competition, which does 0-60 in about 3 seconds, so it's easy for speed to get away from you
2) Situational awareness... especially in areas where speed traps can catch you not paying complete attention to a quick unexpected speed limit change.

For the first time today I might have witnessed something with this. I dont know if it is because of a new favorites list or not, if that even is a factor somehow.

Anyway, I was driving around with my sds100 and my radar detector kept randomly pinging X - band in places that it has never done that before. So it is not just a random door or store security system in this instance.

Ohio is one of the few states that still use X-band. I turn X-band off in my home state of Michigan, but back on for Ohio. I follow the radar detector hobby and read/participate in the RDforum.org. I run a Uniden R3 (I rarely speed but like to know, just like the scanning hobby), which is quite good at rejecting unwanted signals. There are many filter settings, many more than our scanners. The filtering options in this detector are amazing. The new R7 adds arrows like the Valentine and newer Escort. Head on over to that forum if you care to learn about the new technology's in RD.

I don't even get that many X band false alarms anymore, they are mostly K band now. So I leave X band on. There are still a few small towns and counties that use X band. Count me among the very happy R series owners (R1 for me).

Ohio here, also the 1st to report radar detector issues. X band always ON, also, s far as I can tell, it seems to do it more on just certain 700-800 MHz freqs. It's really had to replicate as sites and freqs change, plus probably some other unknowns.

I'm also looking at a R7, but I have seen some reports that it also may do this.
If I could 100% replicate it would be a dream to analyze, I just can't I've also tried moving an external mag mount to different locations with, so far, no joy.

I have not tried the 200 mobile to see if it does the same or not.

Posting an update... Since firmware updates, my NetRadarDSPs are not having any more SDS100 X band alerts. The Max360c is intermittent now, though it has been "retired" to another vehicle running a 536 without issues.

NetRadar updates or SDS100 updates?

I have noticed it seems to do it with the state police when its broadcasting from the custom list. The same frequency on the full database does not do it. Most unusual.
