• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I made a boo boo.

The XTS2500 I bought was an ex military radio ( I think) and I hit the purple button and the mandown in service mode. It killed the radio and now I can't read/write from the radio. Is it toast?

I'm not real familiar with the Moto's, but I have a pair of Relm KNG series radios that got bricked. I tried everything. Finally all I had to do was load a blank code plug and they came back to life. It's worth a try.

I tried to write a codeplug and it gives me a "warning this radio has been KILLED"

This happens frequently with the Corps PRC-153. Generally it is “KILLED” upon reading the unit. There is a byte in the codeplug that sends out the command upon read. I do not believe there is a way to recover it back to a working unit unless sent out to you know what...

I have heard you can use a software called Op25 and HACKrf to uninhibit but I believe finding the software is tedious. Better off selling for parts or, ya know..

Looks like the H02 Encrypted Tactical Inhibit command was sent to it. You will need to reverse the process. A lot of the USMC PRC 153s are showing up in the wild now. I have an NOS unit that has this feature.

The best thing for people to do if they pick up one of these radios is to disable that feature. It will only cause you a bunch of headaches in the future.

How do you disable it? When I tried to disable the "Tactical Inhibit" box it wouldn't let me. And it wasn't sent to it, with these radios if you hit the purple button and the mandown it will kill itself

If you want to send me the codeplug, I can take a look. I have a bit of experience “de-milling” the PRC-153. Shoot me a PM, if you’d like.

pushing the purple and man down did exactly what it was programmed to do.. That was so the radio was manually disabled incase it got into the wrong hands...

Unless you have the original ACK (Advanced Conventional Key), you won't be able to Un-Kill the radio or remove that checkbox from Tactical Inhibit. It's a way to keep the enemy from getting the info out of the radio. There are ways around it, but they can't be spoken here.
