• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Trying to save a BUNCH of typing in programming my newly acquired TK-2180.

I have a codeplug file already made for my TK-7180.

Is there a way to "convert" this file so that I can upload it into the TK-2180?

I'm waiting for a response with my fingers crossed! LOL

Thanks in advance for any help!

in your programming software just change the model from TK-7180 mobile to TK-2180 portable, you dont need to re type it or used the import/export.

Export the info, read the radio, import the file you exported, program if you dont want to change any thing.

Do not forget to assign your button functions. Not everything is compatible between mobile and portable(like low power transmit).

Doing that will clear all info. KD4EFM has the correct solution.

This is very achievable as described above, but may be broken down into steps for easier implementation.
1) "Read" the 7180 mobile.
2) Save the 7180 file.
3) change the radio setting on the Kenwood programming software menu to TK 2180 from TK 7180.
4) Assign the buttons and TK 2180 -specific settings.
5) Save the new 2180 programming information file under a new name for the portable.
6) Change programming cables and "write" to the TK 2180.
The saved files save you time if it takes a time or two to make it all work correctly instead of unplugging programming cables to the mobile, etc.

Well done N5XPM. That's exactly what I ended up doing, it just took me a couple of "trial and error" uploads to achieve the final result.

For the record, all the data WAS cleared, but it was just a matter of uploading the mobile codeplug into the portable-configured software. I tweaked up the buttons and the LCD settings and was good to go. Even with a couple of trial and error uploads, it still saved a TON of time.

Thanks to all for their assistance!
