• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Correct, no YSF with an XTL 5000 but you can use the KG4MRA repeater (145.430) which is a mixed mode analog/P25 repeater. Using the standard NAC of 293.

Ah ok, I thought the system fusion was C4FM like in the AS and XTL no biggie. KG4MRA is dead out here on me on P25 but a few regulars on it in analog I hear. Just trying to see what I can reach to from the home location. KG4MRA is reachable from here on the mobile.

C4FM is a modulation technique, not a protocol. Just because a given RF device transmits C4FM doesn't mean it's air interface compatible with another.

For example: NXDN uses C4FM. It isn't protocol compatible with P25 or D-Star or anything else. The protocol of the data is what matters, and System Fusion is a one-off format created by Yaesu.

And this is where the confusion lays with Yaesu marketing their System (con)Fusion digital protocol as C4FM. It is a mode of modulation which also encompasses ASTRO (Motorola's old VSLEP based digital protocol), Project 25 (Phase 1, non-simulcast), and NXDN (both wide and narrow).

As I stated I thought it was C4FM like in the AS & XTL. Hence the word (like). I did not know Yaesu had created their own protocol to use in the SF. No big deal was just playing about with the radio to see how far out I could hear. I am on the fringe of the KG4MRA repeater.

That is why I have no digital radios for ham to many protocols, D Star,DMR,YSF.

I use it in P25 along with a couple other hams from time to time. Mostly during my commute.

Next time I turn it on I will listen for you all. It is off now. I did hear someone talking yesterday about a balloon and tracking it but I was working on the truck at the time. I think they were on the analog side not 100% sure of that.

Again, your confusing a modulation type (C4FM) with an air interface protocol. Yaesu's marketing is just that: marketing.

In the P25 world, both C4FM and LSM are utilized. This is just a transport mechanism of modulating a digital carrier. Nothing more. The protocol is how the data packets are formatted and sent over the air. TETRA and DMR utilize both TDMA and FDMA modulation types for various layers of the air interface but the protocols are vastly different.
