• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I want to install a BCD536HP in a 2010 Ford Edge. I can pull the factory AM/FM/CD radio no problem. I think it's a 1-1/2 DIN opening. But I'm not sure a Uniden supplied DIN mounting insert will work as is. Has anyone done this and can you offer and advice?

Thanks!

I just got some pvc pipe to fit the cupholder and it works great. Just need to cover one end so you can mount it. Just a thought...

Thanks, that could be an option. We do use the cup holders in the center console however for drinks we could use the cup holders in the door panels instead. I'd have to find a way to secure it so it doesn't become a leathal projectile in a bad accident. I could also just toss a hoodie over it when I leave the vehicle unattended while traveling and it would be out of sight from smash & grabs.

The 536 series really hates when you start the vehicle, so be sure to turn it off for starting. Otherwise it will reboot and may (not always) corrupt you sd card. Thank God the SDS 200 doesn't do that!

If it is a 1 1/2 DIN opening then the SDS 200 may be a better option as it is a 1 1/2 DIN scanner.

Thanks, I have read that elsewhere but thanks for reminding me. Normally I don't like to power up anything by any means other than the devices own On/Off switch. Even at home with my Astron power supply, I won't do that. I always apply the power first, then turn on the devices to prevent any kind of surge.

I won't risk a $700 scanner. I live in a nice area but at times I go where not man shouldn't go without an arsenal! They'll kill you for no reason, I certainly don't want to give them a reason!

My brother says that about where I live. Thinks I am crazy for have 3 ham rigs and a scanner in my truck. Heck it's only like $2000 to $3000 worth of radios.
