The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am in the process of trying to combine my three separately banded XTS' to a single Harris personality. has anyone made a transition like this from the ground up? The conventional channels are no problem, of course. Where I am having a problem is that I can't figure out how do get the trunked systems transferred over. I know this is pretty broad and more info may be needed. Please help if you can, I may be able to send some screen shots at another time as well.

The XL200 can only be programmed with RPM2 ... the software does not allow any programming in the trunking portion unless it is unlocked by Harris with a system key ...

I have rpm2 and the proper system keys. The terminology between the two manufacturers varies. Just trying to figure out where to plug in numbers.

There is no conversion from a Motorola Codeplug to Harris Personality file. I do this regularly translating between Motorola, Harris, EFJ and Tait. It took a long time to get comfortable with all the platforms and differences in both terminology and workflow. At a high level, when your motorola workflow is typically: trunking system -> trunking personality -> zone your general workflow in Harris will be: P25 iden set, P25 trunked frequency set, p25 group set -> system -> (if desired) zone.

Ditto. I do this all the time and it's a big PITA. I would be at least reasonably content if RPM2 allowed me to import or paste info from an Excel spreadsheet like APX. As it is I have to build from scratch.

One good thing about Harris over Moto is that I can use a single codeplug file for every kind of radio RPM2 will program; just tell it what the radio is, fix the inevitable errors that pop up, and program. Motorola requires a separate codeplug for every tiny variation of model; you got two XTS5000-M3 portables with only a tiny variation like Programming over P25? Too bad so sad, it's time to make separate codeplugs. Grrr!

Add to the frustration the fact that Moto and Harris radios behave differently; I've got customers with both and it's a constant struggle trying to explain the differences in public safety-speak.
