Disregard the Dayton site and use this one:

Correct on disregarding the Dayton site, but even the MontCo site may not help too much if you're in Xenia. You'll only know if you try it, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work too well; coverage from the MontCo site starts to drop off once you get east of I-675 so in some areas it might work OK and in others not well enough to decode reliably. You're picking up Clark and Preble because those talkgroups have roamed to the Greene County site (which they do regularly; I hear them there whenever I'm in the area).

MARCS is very serious about keeping coverage overlap to only the minimum necessary on the new system; from home with a 700/800 MHz antenna in the attic I was able to receive nearly all of the sites in every surrounding county on old MARCS, but with the new system I consider myself lucky to receive most of the sites within 10-15 miles of my house.

Tom is right, I live in Clark County west of Springfield and on a hill and the range from Montgomery County system cannot make the trip to the Lawrenceville area most of the time, even with a 700 mhz antenna placed high in the house. I'd love to be able to hear them but the powers that be have measured right up to where they want to stop it, why, I don't know.??

I live just west of I-675 in Fairborn and I get Mont Co no problem. Good reception. I monitor Germantown PD where my nephew works as a police officer and I hear him loud and clear every night. I have said this before, but I must be in a good sweet spot because I do not have reception problems like some people do with this scanner. (SDS100 & SDS200) No complaints whatsoever. Directional yagi and discone about 30ft high on a mast on north side of the roof. I can see a cell tower from the back porch. No interference issues, either. I was initially concerned when I got the SDS100 because of the cell tower being so close, but have not had any issues with it as of yet. I scan Englewood PD, Union PD, and Clayton. All clear as a bell with good antennas and good height.

FCC rules and system efficiency. If a radio can hear a site too far away it seriously screws up the radio's ability to roam properly and safely. These things are very carefully calculated.

Thanks for that info, I've asked people and rarely are they giving informed reasons why it is, just that's the way they do it!! There is a whole generation growing up with trunking who fortunately or unfortunately missed out on SKIP reception tripping a repeater before channel guard from states away and low bank skip that covered local traffic

How do I program my Radio Shack Pro 2096 to pick up the Montgomery Co system? What trunking settings do I use?

@ MLW....

The Pro-2096 can not be programmed to monitor the Montgomery County portion of MARCS-IP properly; at least that I am aware of anyways....

You are most likely in the market for a new receiver, if you are interested in listening. The Uniden SDS-series works extremely nice (and is the latest); along with the Unication G-series pagers. The Uniden BCD436/536 will work; but, not as great as the SDS-series receivers....

Your 197 will do the stand-alone sites with few, if any, issues; however, when you get to the simulcast sites (Montgomery Co, Warren Co, Butler Co, etc); it's definitely going to go wonky....

The 2096... well, let's just say its a 2096...

I appreciate all you guys imput, used to live in Dayton, and love to listen to dpd all the time, but I guess with the new MARCS system, have to listen to greene county all the time, I do get the occasional 800Mhz chatter, but only for a bit, and the occasional conventional fire dispatch, ( they still do that ) i'm pretty high in Greene County altitude, about 900 feet, sea level, and outside antenna , just can't get the signal's now, part of life,

Thanks for the input,
