• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can anyone share some information on how to upgrade TK-5710 version 2 firmware and where to get the firmware. I have the radio programmed, but missing the MDC1200 option because of firmware.

Thanks in advance!

Contact your Kenwood dealer.

They may charge you to do the upgrade, or they may just provide the firmware file. The FPro.exe, the program that pushed the update to the radio, is included on the KPG-95 programming software disk.

Awesome! Thank you for the info. I’ll reach out to the local shop and see what they’ll do for me. I get the programming software being protected, but never understand protecting firmware to make a product you purchase better. Guess if that’s the only complaint I have though of Kenwood, that’s pretty good. Thank you again for the info! Firmware updates are a new thing for me.

Probably a couple of reasons….

Dealers can make money off doing firmware upgrades. Dealers need to make money to survive.
Done incorrectly, radios can be bricked with the wrong firmware.
Not understanding what firmware updates change can get end users into issues, like when the narrow banding rolled out.

But, some dealers will give it to you. It's not a difficult process.

Good luck. I'm running a bunch of TK-5710's for our PD and using MDC ID'ing on them. Pretty sure they are version 3 radios.
