Are the police and fire using codewords for Covid-19? I heard a ambo dispatch to a person with breathing problems and then they said "charlie-negative" something I never heard before. This is for Lycon and Emporia. I think a friend heard something like that on the scanner in Osage County.

Just heard another ambo call "unknown charlie"

Pretty much all agencies are implementing a system of this nature,
EMS/PD Dispatch is using a survey, chest pain, fever, cough, ect to
assign the response level.
Some as simple as C19 neg survey...to signal codes, and if available
to have units with the proper gear to take calls....If available..

Side Note..

Its now routine, 3 diif states Ive been traveling ..CT, NY and MA...that PS
is refusing to enter dwellings regardless ofthe 19 status...

And alotta PS workers are catching the KATRINA flu....

In JoCo, we have 'Protocol 36' as the dispatched headline. Any further details are slapped on to responding units MDT's.

A fairly common usage in some areas is "PPE Advised" when running to a location or on a person where COVID is known or suspected. Virtually every dispatch center in the country has implemented something similar.

I've heard all of the following in some Bergen County NJ towns around me:
Sierra Positive/Negative/Unknown
Code-19 Positive/Negative/Unknown
Code-99 Positive/Negative/Unknown

and variants on the above

Tampa area hospitals ask:
"answer to the COVID questions?" followed by a yes for temperature, cough/sweat/etc or "no COVID symptoms"
dispatch will say:
"use BSI"
"use universal precautions"
"wear COVID PPE"
if suspected or potential case

In this county fire and EMS are advised "meets ATD criteria." ATD means "Aerosol Transmissible Disease." This is actually an old CAL OSHA term for any airborne pathogen. For example, it was used to warn against tuberculosis.

Same here. Dispatcher says: No (or yes) to COVID questions. Not trying to hide anything.

I'm surprised how many odd and random codewords are being used, especially compared to what were hearing. I understand if the city already has a word for this situation, like the person who posted the code associated with tuberculosis, but a lot of them seem to just be made up on a whim, department to department.
I was actually going to start a thread and ask "what COVID codes are used in your area" so I'm glad I saw this.

Stark County (Ohio) dispatchers conduct a COVID screening on all EMS calls that includes questions such as fever, cough, exposure, etc. Dispatched units will be advised of COVID screening positive or negative.

NYC isn’t using any codes which I’m glad. Calls are coming over as “Sick, fever, cough... possible covid”
