• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey everyone ,hope all is well.
I have been working even though there is a stay at home order. With that said, I drive a company vehicle and though I enjoy just toting around my HTs with me in the van I'd like to find a temporary/permanent solution to use my Motorola XTL5000. I thought about buying the control unit that has the all in one controlhead part# pmun1034 but I don't want to swap my xtl into a remote mount. I can't and will not drill holes into the interior of the cab so I figure I could find something like this:

And this would be rx only so I could use a duck antenna on the back of the radio. I remember a long time ago havis or jotto made a contractors seat console but this is the closest thing I could find and I don't even know if the radio will mount inside face up.

Any help or comments would be appreciated btw I have scanners but I only listen to one band, and the xtl is just a far better rx in my honest opinion

Hello, are you employed by a law enforcement agency that is subjected to daily inspections by supervisory personnel? Why can't you place an external antenna on the vehicle, even though you are going through the trouble of putting in and mounting a console to "hide" the XTL mobile radio? You could put a magnetic-mounted antenna in the back window draped against the glass, as long as you don't transmit on high power. But you said that it would be used for receive-purposes only.

What services are you planning on monitoring? Your own agency or employer's two-way system, or something else totally different?

Years ago, a Ham Radio friend of mine had his dual-band mobile radio actually mounted within the communications/siren/light control console, with a trunk-lip mounted dual-band antenna on his squad car. His picky supervisor just didn't want it to interfere with normal communications gear, which of course it didn't.
