• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

@K7MFC I agree with you. The OP may be in a country where “CB” is on UHF. UHF CB - Wikipedia

To answer the question, it depends on the receive range of the amateur radio. Some may be limited on receive range. Just compare the frequencies of the specific amateur radio.

The only way I know of to pick up CB on a ham radio is if:
1.) He's got an HF rig, and;
2.) That HF rig has got a general coverage receiver.

zigzagman95,

First off, Welcome to RadioReference! :)

What country are you in? In order for us to best help you, please tell us what country you are in. This is important and it matters A LOT. What version(s) of "CB" are available to you depends on the country you are in.

@zigzagman95, first we need to know for sure where "here" is and second we need to know what radio service (type of business) you are talking about... And that is at a minimum to get started...

<edit> Also, please see my Post #4 above. Are the two threads related by chance? If they are, like I said, the Baofeng UV-5R will not do CB radio in the United States (27 MHz). However, they do cover 470 MHz but may not be legal again depending on the radio service being used in.

Zigzag, there are some folks trying to help you here, who could probably answer every question you might have - if you would answer their questions. So far you haven't done that. At least tell us where you are (country, city)!

@zigzagman95, listen to what @k7ng is asking of you. Our hands are basically tied, i.e. we cannot answer your questions, without you answering our questions first. How we answer depends entirely on how you answer our questions. Your questions are highly dependent on your location as has been requested many times so far.

Wherever on Earth? zig-zag is located he obviously is suffering from a serious failure to communicate. He clearly has the volume down and is not hearing a word anyone here is saying. This has been going on almost 10 days. Valent effort everybody!

If the OP was located here in the states, the only question I’d have for him would be.....WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU EVER WANT TO DO SO IN THE FIRST PLACE?
