One particular 2006 of mine that was a salvation army find wont light up no matter what I do.
And yes the EL panel works as it works fine with my other 2006.

checked the 2 solder points with a volt meter and shows 0.06V.

So pretty much have left it like this for a while now. is there any alternate solder points for the panel to connect to and work?

btw: 2006 works great, its just the panel issue

The PRO-2006 service manual offers only a single line of explanation on page 6 about how the EL panel is powered. It says "LCD is back lighted with Electro Luminescence, which works with 70 V rms, 300 Hz AC."

So there is a circuit that generates this high voltage, high frequency power waveform. On page 77 the schematic for the CPU section contains the circuit that powers the EL panel. It consists of transistor Q508, transformer T501, and some resistors and capacitors. In a 30 year old radio, the capacitors might be bad so the first step is to replace C504 and C506. C506 is especially critical to the operation of the circuit. If that doesn't get the circuit to function, the transistor might be bad. It would be necessary to research a suitable modern replacement for the old original type number in that case. The last major component in the circuit is the transformer. Although any component can fail, it is least likely that the transformer is bad.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Sounds like a mission so I will try to get those Caps and replace them if they are not too hard to remove from the board ( tiny solder points)

hmm so why does a different LCD panel from another 2006 works fine when I swap it with the none working one?
If the Q508/T501 were bad it would not work with the swap.

Has to be something within the LCD panels not getting the 70 V rms, 300 Hz AC
