I have been following this DMR system I found and logging with SDRTrunk. I don't understand a bunch of these messages in the log. Could someone help me in determining what each one means? I believe it is a Moto Cap+ single repeater, and I know many of the HT's they are using are Motorola based on their discussions. The CC being used is 12.

I'd love to understand what is going on behind the cloak.

Honestly, I don't understand most of that, but how do you know it's Cap+? I see Tier III and Con+ in the code. Is it decoding properly? I see 3/4 data rate also.

Try to get a better signal. Reposition your antenna or use a better one.

OOPS, I MISREAD. I THOUGHT YOU WERE USING DSD+. Does SdrTrunk have a gain control?

I don't think I have a receive issue, my PPM is very low and the audio is extremely clear.

I don't know its a Cap+, but my understanding is Cap+ and Con+ are only different by the number of sites and repeaters/site. The Cap+ assumption was based on the data burst every 60-90 seconds. I'm not so concerned between the two.

As for the code, there are failed Tier III calls, a Hytera calls and a Con+ calls, all with different site #s. I'm wondering if this is remnants from the initial install and the new user just bought it off ebay and tossed it up without understanding the setup.

I'm trying to understand what is going on better. Maybe even figure out what the MSG at the end of these mean, or the way to decode them.

In general (not specific to SDRTrunk), when you have something like a CRC or ECC failure, it means that message was garbled and could not be corrected – you really shouldn't waste any time trying to understand the rest of that message. You'll see unknown opcodes, supposed Hytera messages on a P25 system, etc. None of it means anything.

Since one doesn't have control channels and the other does, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

What??? Sounds like nothing more than bad decodes to me.

I would see what DSD+ 1.101 reports.

The messages been reported by SDRTrunk are fairly straight forward.
What you are going to need is a common frame of reference to understand them.
You will get this understanding by looking though the DMR standards (see TS 102-361-01, TS 102-361-02, TS 102-361-03, TS 102-361-04)

Half the messages in post are showing "FAILED,[CRC ERROR]".
It's probably safe to assume that what follows on the line is not valid.

Some of the other messages are just bad decodes and the rest look like they are related to DATA packet PDUs.

Hence the assumption Cap+, its an unlicensed repeater, and as far as I can tell, its only a single repeater on a single frequency pair.

I'll have to see if I can get DSD+ to work and log it. I can't remember anything on how to set it up, and just confused myself this morning.

I did switch antennas to one in the attic that is a quarter wave on a ground plane that is a backup for my 70cm base station. I'm still seeing the same messages in the log. I won't read into it too much more.

You download it and its DLL package, unzip all files into a new folder, then run the FMP24-CC.bat and CC.bat files. The Windows Firewall might pop up and ask if FMP24 can act as a server; if so, allow it. Manually tune FMP24 to the signal of interest by clicking on the spectrum window title and then typing in the frequency (in MHz) and pressing Enter.
