• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I think my charger may be dead. When I place the radio on the charger there is no indicator light visible (either red nor green). When I unplug the charger at the rear and plug back in the charger light comes on (green for a second then red for a second) then the light goes out. Is my charger dead?

Charger cradle (cup the radio sits in) is probably good if the light comes on momentarily. The "wall wart" transformer is bad. I had this problem with several of these, and a new transformer solved the problem. I even bought some spares from Radio Shack before they closed many of their stores. They are off-white instead of black, but still work.

Make sure all the contacts (tabs) in the back of the charger are looking okay, none are broken or depressed into the housing.

weird! I found another charging cable that fit the charger. I have a new battery that I used the new cord to charge with. The charging cycle was fine, charger worked normally. when the charging cycle on the new battery completed, the charger exhibited the same behavior as before I tried the new cord. I thought I got off easy when I found a new cord that fit and seemed to work fine while charging. Now not sure what to do. New charger?

Ebay occasionally has new / light used $50 range. Buy 2nd if possible in case this occurs again.

there are two revisions of the charger. Which one are you experiencing problems with?

Hey speaking of charger part numbers… does anyone have a solid part to replace the power supply brick that comes with the stock Harris charger? I have the cradle, but need a power supply that A) fits the barrel connector on the back of the cradle and B) supplies 12vdc 3a with proper polarity (center pin positive I believe)… It doesn’t need to be a Harris part as long as it meets the power requirements and actually fits… the “fits” part is the part I’m worried about. I can get 12vdc 3a supplies anywhere!

The model number is saw36-12.0-3000 12 volt power supply. I picked up a charger on eBay from base surplus. the charger didn’t come with the adapter but I was able to locate one on eBay.
