• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am looking to install an XPR4550 in my 2011 Honda Fit and would like to install an external Mic and PTT button in the headliner. I am wondering how I would connect wires to the rear connector on the radio to accomplish this. The head will fit is a space in the center console but do not want a mic hanging out there as it will be in the way.

Thank you in advance and if this is not possible, please let me know. Just an idea that I had that I think would make it a cleaner install but then again, some of my ideas are WAY out there!

Not really. I am looking to install the remote head behind the shifter where it will be accessible but out of the way. But there is no really good place to put the Microphone. I would like to put just a microphone head, like you find in newer cars for the hand-free system, and a Momentary button in the headliner just in front of the lights so that it is out of the way but accessible from both sides of the car depending on who is driving.

Motorola makes the RMN5054 visor microphone that interfaces with the rear 26 pin connector. You'll also need one RLN5926 push button PTT kit and to then wire it yourself (it's compatible with different models) but it shouldn't be too difficult.

Alternately, you could get the Motorola BT RSM kit. The RSM works with the transmitter buolt into the palm mic on an XPR or APX mobile (never tested on XTL), and APX portables. I guess you could jack the mic into the remote deck, then have the wireless palm mic, but you would need to charge the sucker so maybe not optimal.
