• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Narrow. If it's analog. If it's digital, there's other info you'll need.

And please, take this as professional advice from someone who understands how hard it is to do this stuff:

Make sure you get approval in writing from your chief. You as a volunteer fire fighter or professional fire fighter do not have an FCC license to use this frequency. The FCC rules are abundantly clear on this, the licensee (agency that has their name on the FCC license) is the only one who can grant permission to use the radio system. They are 100% responsible for any and all radios on their radio system, including yours. Get it in writing on agency letterhead signed by the person who's name is on the FCC license. Keep it with the radio. It prevents issues down the road.

I have the TX Freq and PL tones. wanted to make sure I was correct on the band and steps
You should also make certain your radio has the proper FCC type acceptance. If it's one of the major commercial brands (Motorola, Icom Kenwood, Vertex, Harris, etc.), it's probably fine. If it's anything else (think Chinese brands), look for the type acceptance number, then verify it with the FCC.

Wrong subforum but I see you've been helped and have it working now. What kind of radio is it?

Yeah, that's good. I was just curious what radio it was. The question about the step threw me off a little.

Ah, OK. That explains why it was asking step. I knew that wasn't a typical setting in most software/radios.

BTech 25x2. (I know its not FCC approved)

Another piece of advice...don't use that s*&% radio in public service, where lives are literally at stake. One reason is of course that poeple could die, but the second reason is that if something bad were to happen and it was found out that you were using that radio, your house, car, and everything else nice in your life, would no longer belong to you.

I do highly doubt the county repeater or system administrator would sign off on that radio being used, and it is certainly not advisable to use it without signed documentation from said admin, but if they do, then…
