BCD325P2/BCD996P2: BCD996P2 seems to be scanning slower than when I first set it up

I purchased this scanner about 2 months ago. Great scanner other than it seems to be scanning through frequencies slower than it was in the beginning. I’m not sure if I accidentally pressed a button and changed a setting or something else. Has anyone else had this issue?

Welcome to the RR forums. Are these conventional objects or a trunked system? How's your squelch set? Squelch should be no lower than 2 if scanning conventional objects. If a trunked system only scan one site at a time so the scanner doesn't waste resources scanning sites out of range to you

Check your squelch setting. Normally, it is 2. Which conventional frequencies and trunked systems are you scanning? If you are using programming software, please attach the files giving you problems so that we can check them. If you are using ARC-XT or FreeSCAN, you will need to right click on the files and Send to Compressed (zipped) folder to be able to attach them. Click on Attach files and Open the zipped folder(s).

I'd have to agree with Whiskey3JMC and tvengr about the squelch setting.
If you have it set to low, lower than 2, you might notice a slower scan time. I do on my conventional systems set up.

I just happened to have turned the squelch knob one time instead of the volume button, not really paying much attention, and the next day I noticed my scanner was considerably slower.

After doing some Google searches as to what might be the problem, I came across a RadioReference thread and someone mentioned the squelch setting being to low. I checked mine on my BCD996P2 scanner and sure enough it was set to 1 or 2 (I don't quite remember). As soon as I put it on 4, the scanner was scanning at its normal scan speed.

Try lowering the squelch to 2 and see if it still scans as fast. With the squelch set to 4, you will be missing transmissions with poor signal strength.
Yeah, makes a pretty big difference depending on what you're listening to.

HHMM .. I think might have just helped me!!! Man, I hope so .. I have been going crazy trying to figure this out. I had my squelch on 1, switched it 2 and I think it might be working. BCD325P2 .. I just don't understand what the difference is between 1 and 2, and why that would change teh scan speed. I understand squelch very well regarding CB radio .. but ???

When a signal breaks the squelch the scanner looks longer trying to decode the signal but it is only seeing white noise making the scanner scan slower. You want to adjust the squelch to just above the noise level so it hears weak signals but not white noise.
