• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How to tell if an XTL 1500 is inhibited?

I just bought a few radios, one is an XTL1500 which I am not familiar with. The radio does not appear to power on. All it does is flash two led status leds, after it is turned on from having no power connected. The other thing- when holding the emergency button and menu button all the way to the right, it will flash the flashing screen quick and disappear. My computer will detect the radio being connected when it flashes the screen and then it disconnects.

I have no idea if the radio was inhibiting or my other theory is that it has something to do with the ignition sense being on (the accessory connector looks pretty clean like it had something connected)

Next question - I have the ignition sense disabled, is there anyway to disable the emergency jumper, radio still won't turn on unless I have that connected. I am assuming it's a physical security thing?

I got one doing the same thing. Actually it has no display either. Iy appears to me to be power cycling or boot loop with each beep because the com port goes in and out with each beep. It will not stay long enough for the CPS to establish a connection. I am using a usb cable that I rigged going into the rear plug. confirmed good on othe radios. If i could find out a way to get it out of boot loop I think I could bring it back to life. Any idea how I may proceed from anyone id greatly appreciated.

Negative. No need to have anything plugged into the ACC connector On a XPR4550/5550

To be more clear, I will be operating the radio over the PTT and TX Audio lines that appear on the rear accessory connector. But don't I need to supply +12 Volts to the ignition sense line at least? TNX.

I've seen that happen before. Check to make sure there's enough current getting to the radio (ie power supply is big enough, power wires are big enough, etc). If the radio isn't getting enough current to operate it'll constantly loop like that.

The head flex cables are probably trash. Unfortunately, finding flex cables to replace them are nearly impossible.
