There was an interesting story on CTV Edmonton today about the Eskimos radio comms. Much like we have heard in the states CFL quarterbacks are now using helmet radios to recieve information from coaches and other sources.
They must be controlled by the CFL as they can only be used at certain times during the game. This should also include the Lions, Stampeders, Roughriders and Blue Bombers.
Perhaps it will be Motorola Turbo as they are concerned about other teams knowing their hand signals and monitoring their communications. They did show a Motorola hand held radio.
I have an old frequency logged for the Eskimos on 453.7375 but do not see it licensed on TAFL now. Maybe they are licenced under the CFL Canada Wide.
AFAIK NHL teams are still on analog but it's been a while since I listened in.

Has anyone had any luck trying to find the frequency these helmet radios operate on? I did see a listing on TAFL for 426.7875 and 458.6625, with a new licensee with licences for every CFL city. The coordinates for the Regina licence are for Mosaic Stadium. Definitely something to do with the football games, but may or may not be the helmet radios.

So if someone is at or near a game with a scanner (these are likely very low power) they may want to plug these two frequencies in and let us know what you hear.

Rob, I don't get down to Regina too much, so I'll leave it your good hands. I'm sure that these are so low in power that if you were outside the stadium you may not receive anything. Your best bet is to be behind the bench between plays and see if the frequencies are active.

Take headphones as I'm sure the ambient noise is very high.

Good luck.

Of course, if you're at the game itself that's the best spot. But actually, even if you are outside of the stadium there is still a good chance you will hear the communications. I usually park in a spot a little over a half kilometer away from the stadium (convenient parking). Anyway, even at that distance you can still pick up a lot of the low power stuff during the games.

So, even though there are no guarantees, it's still worth a try to get close to the stadium and see what can be heard, if you can't actually be inside the stadium.

Obviously this new system will have some sort of encryption on it other wise the opposing teams will be monitoring with a scanner or some other way. Therefore I wouldn't hold up much hope of getting any of the chit chat sitting in the stands like Nascar fans.

In the US try all low power like 457.525, 457.600, 467.750, 467.925 plus 49 Mhz low power.
From an old list gathered in both Edmonton and Calgary:
Buffalo 469.900, Calgary 458.225, 458.050 Ch 10, 467.8125, 467.775, 467.2375, 464.1875, 462.2375, 458.6625, 458.0875, 453.8875, 453.7625, 453.7375 and 453.2875.
Edmonton 458.3625, 467.1375. New York 467.900. Dallas 461.5875, 461.875, 465.025
Boston 49.860 (Note this is not a Fisher Price radio:)
Detroit 464.550. Hartford 464.3375. Los Angeles 455.000, 460.000, 464.5625, 464.8125.
Vancouver 49.875. New Jersey 461.0875. St. Loius 466.5375, 466.8625, 466.375
New York 467.875, 458.4125, 467.825. Philadelphia 49.830, 49.875
This gives you an idea where to look. Edmonton and Calgary are licensed as their team names while Vancouver is listed Canucks Sports and Entertainment. Winnipeg was licensed as Eight Hockey Ventures when they were here and were on 467.8375, 467.850, 457.575 and 467.775.
It was always interesting when LA came to down as they interfered with the input of the downtown airport repeater and wer broadcast city wide.

Should have listed Vancouver licensing not confirmed.
407.2125, 407.8375, 464.375, 464.450, 464.600, 464.875, 464.9125, 460.9125, 465.9125 and two repeaters 410.2625 and 451.6125 which are probably concessions.
Most likely the 464 Mhz channels would be used by the team.

Thanks, I have seen that list floating on the net for years and NEVER have been able to validate any of the info, at the Boston Garden or the Fleet/TD Bank Garden.

The database lists the Edmonton Oilers using:
458.37500 100.0 PL Coaching Staff

Can we get a moderator move the NHL discussion to it's own thread in the Sports section? The info will get overlooked in the CFL thread.

Frequencies

First, I couldn’t find any listing for the CFL, Canadian Football League or Calgary Stampeders in the Spectrum Direct Database. Some of the above listed frequencies do not have any listing in the Spectrum Direct: 458.255, 458.05. And no listing in Calgary for 467.8125, 467.775. Someone also mentioned 462.7875 but I couldn’t find anything listed for Calgary. And I can only comment further on Calgary frequencies. I know a few years ago, the Calgary Flames had some agreement to supply the food for the Stampeders football games. The Flames have the following listed frequencies: 462.2375 [input 467.2375]. 464.1875, 458.0875, 453.8875, 453.7625, 453.7375, 453.2875, 451.7375. And most of these are also listed for other users in Calgary and I have heard activity on all of them. Especially for concessions for Football games. However, nothing real exciting. Just ordering more fries, onions be sent to concessions. McMahon Society also operates the Stadium and I have heard activity on their listed frequencies of 169.71 and 171.51. I can’t remember exactly but I believe 169.71 was for putting on activities at the games during a break or TV commercials. This is kind of interesting. 171.51 was more for Security [not CPS]. I know this doesn’t help with the coach to quarterback communications. Hopefully someone can pick something up. It should be noted that most of the above frequencies being used are simplex and are hand held radios so probably will only be heard near McMahon Stadium [and the Saddledome]. And I agree that if the comms are from sideline to helmet, there will not be a lot of power. And I am not really certain of all the frequencies set aside for low power RF. I live too far away from McMahon Stadium and will not be going to a football game until later in the season. It would be interesting if anyone picks up some frequencies.

Please note the 426.7875 Mhz frequency is a repeater with a 458.6625 Mhz input. So it would be sidelines to repeater and then repeater to helmet. Also they are licensed to an Ontario numbered company not the CFL. Base in Calgary is CHQ739.

The Flames 458.050 Channel 10 was used by the coaches. I was using a BC 245 for search. Very well could be 458.0875 and the scan stopped early because of the close proximity. Also remember they must use them in the US and may have low powered 457 and 467 Mhz channels marked US only and if you use them in Calgary or Edmonton too bad. The other concession frequencies are also great for use in the US.
The Oiler's license only 458.3625 but do use 467.1375 and others regularly

Please don't speculate on what you don't know -especially unless you have been in "the garage" now some crazy rogers endorsement now, those freq's are confirmend and used variously by the Canucks, Orca bay, union concessions, parking , St Johns brigade etc, the repeaters are so low power you can only hear them in "the garage" the nucks use 407, and 464 are tac channels for everyone expect "the teams" Harry perhaps you could ask a BC person what freqs are what especially if they are not in the database,

I was going to say something about cornflakes in case he didn't have a wife but resisted.

O.K. we know what the "Nucks" use in the garage. But what does this team that's 25 years old like the Blizzard use on the road.

Do those from the US who have been following this thread see any problems with the 407 Mhz frequencies south of the border?
