I don't remember the limits, either, but even if all the channels were above 850 MHz, the real problem is that the 785 (and the 250) wouldn't follow a 9600-baud control channel. That pretty quickly lead Uniden to release the BC796D and BC296D which were otherwise identical but would do 9600 baud.
