• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I am new to the forum.

I just bought a uniden bct246t handheld and was looking for advice as to what brackets are available to mount it in my car. I am thinking of using an external speaker, (actually have one mounted in the car for my cb) thinking there may be a splitter available to use it for the cb and or the scanner).

I am looking to hardwire the unit although it seems all that is available is a cigarrette plug adapter(scanner master sells it for $30!!). Any thoughts on this?

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a dash mount holder to hold the unit, or any other mounting suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

just a question... why would you want to permanently mount a portable?

i have the dc cord..i only plug it in when it needs to be charged while in the car.. and it just sits in my cup holder. i take it with me in the car.. and when im at home, its plugged in on the ac cord.

I found this by accident on a popular auction site but you can also get it here at MOUNTGUYS.COM. It is a twist-lock suction cup mount for the car/truck windshield, it has a ball joint where the radio connects with its belt clip. The ball joint is adjustable and there is an adjustment at the suction cup end. It works very well. The radio is too heavy to use with the type of mount that clips to the a/c vent, also doesn't hold the radio as well as the suction cup type does. Part numbers you'll need are: RAP-104U (Windshield Suction Ratchet Mount; $29.88) and RAP-304U (RAM Locking Belt Clip Base; $7.69). These two pieces together make a secure mounting system for your car/truck and these parts are easily adjustable for a good viewing angle. If you decide to check out the site, the description and price of the items are above the illustration.

I use vent mounts. My car also has a cassette player, so I use a cassette adaptor that goes through my car speakers. If you want to run both radios into one ext speaker, you may need a Y splitter and maybe some male-female adapters. Click on my user name and check my Album for pics.
