• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am running into a problem finding a good place to mount my antennas. The problem is the front quarter panels are fiberglass, and I would rather not drill any holes in my roof. I have thought of the no ground plane antennas, but I can't find anything that will work for my application. I currently have VHF-Hi (148 - 174), VHF-Low (30 - 36), and scanner. I am looking to replace the VHF-Low with UHF (450 - 470).

I currently have a 1/4 wave VHF-Low and Unity VHF-Hi and UHF, scanner is currently glassmount, with less than desirable results. Any suggestions are welcome.

My suggestion to you (& I've been doing radio work for 11 years) is that if your front quarter panels are fiber glass then your best bet it going to be to drill in the roof. I know a lot of people don't like to think about it but it will not affect the resale value of the vehicle, and your performance will improve greatly.

If you are worried about looks, there are plenty of antennas out there that will work ok, and you can get most all antennas in black these days. Not to mention it will look more professional with them up there. I think this is what most people are going to suggest. Just my 2 cents.

Hope it helps !!!

HEY!! A FELLOW MOUNTAINEER OWNER!!!!

I have the same problem too on my 2008 model. I decided to use a Comet two axis hatch mount for my antenna for the time being and its not too bad, I do loose a lot though. I was trying to come up with some ideas to add metal to the cowl mount to get a better ground. I bet you notice too that your FM reception also sucks on your radio, same problem. I have put this on the back burner for a bit but I'll try to come up with something.

For best performance drill holes in the roof.As said before it won't effect the resale later on.

Have you thought about those Diamond antennas that mount on the liftgate and you can adjust the angles and everything?

One quick update. I'm planning to ditch my magmounts (04 TrailBlazer) and design something that will attach to the roof rack rails, depending on how it goes, I'll give you more information and with a little bit of work it should fit in the Mountaineer

I just got an idea from another post in this topic thread here: http://forums.radioreference.com/antennas-coax-forum/171983-trunk-mount-hood.html . How about trying to use a truck lip mount on the engine hood of the Mountaineer?? You may have to do a little finagling to get the antenna straight up and down but this might be a better alternative than drilling into the fiberglass / carbon-fiber quarter panels. Just a though if you don't want to drill the roof.
