• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Well, for a long time now I've been wanting to do a console install in my car. Unfortunately when I purchased my current car (used) I wasn't as interested in my hobbies as I am now, so I didn't look for a vehicle with consoles in mind. I'm driving a Pontiac G6 and I have determined it is basically impossible for me to ever install a console in this car. So what I did in the past was mount my mobile head in the cars factory center console, the good part about this is the radio can be discreetly covered with the arm rest. Anyway I'm looking for ideas on how I could flush mount my radios inside the cubby much like you would mount your equipment in a standard console. I'd like to use the faceplates used in standard consoles and somehow mount them inside the cubby under the armrest. Anyone have any ideas or have any experience with this frustrating issue? I have attached a picture of what it looks like now, and also a picture of a mock drawing I made of something that would fit inside the cubby so the radios can be flush mounted. Any input would be appreciated.

Assuming your template is oriented the same way your radio is currently set in the cubby, I'd use a combination of double sided foam tape and self tapping sheet metal screws to mount aluminum angle or bar stock on the inside walls of the cubby. The aluminum stock would be recessed toward the bottom of the cubby enough to permit space between the radio faces and the bottom of the cubby lid.The holes in the aluminum would be drilled through toward the plastic walls of the cubby and the face plate could be mounted on those aluminum supports via small machine screws threaded into the aluminum supports. The number of aluminum supports would be governed by the space you have around the edges. (Left and right sides only or top and bottom too if space permits. I hope that makes sense without a drawing.

I get the impression you are thinking of more than one radio in that space. You'll want to consider ventilation too.

Can you purchase the actual brackets that come inside a console? I'm taking abut the bracket with all the holes that the faceplate screws to.
