• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am most likely buying a 2002 X-Terra this week, and I was wondering, do any of you know of a good way to mount scanners, HAM and CB radios in an X-Terra? Wondering if anyone has any personal experience or knows any good ways to mount radios.

I am currently just running a Uniden 436, but plan on buying a couple more as I save up for more units as well as probably a HAM and CB for storm chasing. I am also planning on running a Baofeng for the conventional systems in my area as well so will need to be able to mount multiple radio. Looking for an option to mount that can easily be install/removed and with no drilling to dash etc,

Couldn't find anything, but wondering if there's any options out there that utilize the pocket clip or piece that clips on to the picket clip to hold my 436 and other handheld with the pocket clip

Yeah, didn't see anything. Found the mount to the dash, just nothing for a CB, HAM or Uniden scanner.

Yeah I don't think they'll have radio specific mounts but if you have detachable heads or just wanna hang mics they might work. Also look into ram mounts.

I used a small pocket clip thing from pro clips to hang my handheld scanner and cb mic (with built-in radio controls and speaker, can't remember the cobra mode name) by mounting a mic clip to the pocket clip.

I've used ProClip for phones and also had good luck with Panavise In-Dash mounts. Still using the same Panavise mount I had for cradle / 3W amplifier on my AMPS Motorola MicroTAC Elite in my 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Now it's got a ProClip iPhone mount on it. Similar to the vehicle side of the ProClip units, they are specific to each vehicle and usually mount to the factory radio mounting screws.
Panavise, In Dash, Nissan Frontier 02~04, Xterra 02~04

You can usually find (or make) a separate mount compatible with your portable device.
Here are few good examples:
