• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Oh, wizards of radio install, I seek information. I acquired a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer some time ago and am now seeking ideas for installing radios. I know at one point this genre of Blazer was used in public safety, so it would stand to reason that someone somewhere would possibly have information on the type of console which would have been used here. I'm not the greatest at fabrication, so actually building one would probably be out of the question. Simply put, I'd like one where I would be able to mount a Uniden 996P2 and possibly other radios (CB, etc.). I'm just gathering ideas right now.

Is that an S-10 or full size? If it is a full size, they were used in public safety applications. More likely, they would have used the Tahoe or Suburban size vehicles, but the cabs are the same.

The problem is going to be finding a Havis or Jotto or Gamber-Johnson console to fit an older vehicle. Once you have the console itself, the face plates for various radios are readily available, new or used.

RR is probably not the best place to look for an item like this. You would be better off going over to elightbars.org, searching about, and maybe place a WTB post. elightbars.org is where the installers and upfitters hang out. There are a few pros here, but not as many as you might think.

I appreciate the feedback. Sounds like I'll have to dig out the sawzall and have a go at it.

Some Sheriff departments in my area use the newer "S-10" sized Blazers. However, they bought the version without the lower cassette deck console, so there is a break between console and dash. They stacked Motorola XTL5000's or CDM1550's with a Tessco stacking kit in that area.

That's some good information... the one I have has a tape deck, but that can easily be torn out. I had a 2000 model I did the same thing to several years ago so I know it can be done. I shall keep exploring my options.

I have used JottoDesk "Lazy-L" in two of my Crown Victoria Police Interceptors (2001 & 2009). They fit perfectly, and have been "populated" by several radios and ancillary controls. It was not inexpensive, however, you get several faceplates for the radios, cup holders, and other devices you wish to mount in the console. As you can see from the photo, I have several additional radios mounted to the sides of the console. Changes can be made with the proper faceplates and enough slack with interconnecting wiring to move things around.
