• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've decided to drill for a mount in the roof for a dual band to replace my failing magnet mount. I pulled the back dome light and there is a bracket between it and the roof that the light mounts to. I thought about using a Dremel and making a hole thru it just big enough to give the mount clearance. Does anyone else have any experience on this vehicle?

This is my first NMO mount and I'm surprised how tiny the mount actually is.

If it will fit between the bracket and the roof you can put it there, no need to get to the bottom side of the mount for installation. I would personally pick another spot though

To add to the above if I can see the location and there is enough room above the bracket is there any need to be able to access the back of the NMO mount when installing it because my back window rolls down, about a foot behind the area and I might be able to look under the headliner to see if it's clear. In my understanding the NMO is designed to be installed from on top.

NMO is drilled and installed form the top however, this assumes you have an NMO hole saw (which only goes 1/4" past the sheet metal. Most headliners have up to 1.5" of clearance depending on where you are drilling. Drilling the hole with a step bit or other bit...you'd have to drop the headliner a few inches prior to drilling if you can't find an access where you can keep an eye on bit depth.

There is a very old thread on batlabs from a guy who did this with his sport trac, you might want to search there. He had pictures of everything he did.

Well I decided to pull the rear dome light and take another look, it seems it was easier then I thought it would be. The rear dome bracket had for some reason a 1/4" hole in the dead center which gave me just enough room to pilot drill it from the bottom then drill the 3/4" hole from the top without touching the bracket. Then it was twenty minutes of fishing the coax and bam installed.
