• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently purchased a Yaesu FT-8900R. Does anyone know the best place to run the power cable thru the firewall of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala (Tenth Generation)?

So with some more research I figured it out. For anyone who has a 10th generation (2014-present) Chevrolet Impala and your looking to run a power cable for a mobile ham radio or anything else from the battery thru the firewall into the cabin there is a rubber gasket looking thing just behind and a little above the brake pedal. A wire harness sits just to the left of it. It is a perfect spot to run wires thru the firewall and is not to difficult to access. I'm sorry I don't have pics at this time but I will try to add some within the next few days for reference purposes.

On most vehicles, there are a number of gaskets under the dash on the drivers side. The brake pedal, the shift lever from steering column shifting, some even have unused gaskets. Sometimes there is enough space beside the electrical wire feed through gaskets.

Just make sure that when you make the hole, that you don't damage any wiring that may be close. In some cases, it may be required to use a drill because of the type of material and thickness of the gasket.

Good info jim202!!!! This gasket was decent in size and free of anything such as wires. It was almost to easy. I cut the hole using a knife and I cut it a slight bigger to one side than needed. The plastic loom that I wrapped around the wires fit snug and so I just have to seal up the small opening to the side and were golden!!!!!

Year it’s going to save me a bit of work here soon when I wire up my inverter and auxiliary power ports in my car. I was worried about it until I popped my hood, looked down and it was right there.
