Default Tone Remote / Base Station

Hi all.

Can somebody please tell me if I have this right and if not, let me know what I have wrong.....

Its my understanding that a tone remote is used to transmit from a console to a regular radio that would thus activate the repeater and this would be possibly through either a microwave link or hard phone line connection. Having said that, would I be correct in saying that the tone remote "controller" would be wired to the tone adapter, which would be wired to a regular mobile radio?

Yes, in very simple terms that's correct.

Tone remote connects to a phone line (or thru a microwave link, suitably set up to have a circuit that 'looks' like a phone line; what goes in one end comes out the other end without significant change), that connects to the tone adapter.

The tone adapter listens for the tone remote control sequence, and when it hears it, closes a relay for PTT contact and routes the transmit audio to the radio's modulation circuits. In reverse, the radio's receive audio is sent in the other direction on the phone line, and comes out the speaker of the tone remote controller.

You can parallel several tone remote controls in one or several locations; up to a certain number (I think CPI Communications it's like maximum of 6, maybe 10).

You can look at manuals at CPI's website: index.gif
