• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm putting a fullsize 18" LCD (about 12 lbs, I'd guess) in my Tahoe. I'd like a mount that will not transmit force directly from the vehicle through to the monitor without passing through some kind of shock absorbance, so that when I hit a pothole, the monitor won't get destroyed. For example, either a heavyduty gooseneck or an elbow with ball-mount swivel in the middle would work. The Tahoe has no console; I'll be mounting this to the front floor, mid-seat (so it'd need to be around 20", just guessing). The mount also has to have enough degrees of freedom to allow the monitor to move & swivel so it's viewable from either the driver's or passenger's seat.

I've looked at some commercial solutions, but nothing really rang my bell. Anyone done this have any recommendations? Thanks.

You can buy "Ram mount" pieces separately, you could buy the floor plate, telescoping height adjustment with the ball mount swivel then come up with something else that would connect to the VESA mounting holes on the monitor. They also have some mounts that will bolt up without drilling to many different vehicle seat rails. I have put a lot of laptops in semi's by mounting them to the air-ride seat rails.

Ram was the first place I looked, and I've still got them on my short list. I'm looking at the big LCD TV mounts that WalMart, et al. carry. Thanks!

I install mobile data equipment for a living and have never seen a "shock-absorbed" mount. Thayne's idea was interesting, but I don't know if his mounts move up and down with the seat or are just attached to the rails?

If you have problems with / vibration once the screen is in, I'd suggest a more rugged screen - i.e. Panasonic PDRC, Data911, Motorola. And yes, they can be pricey.
