Yes but the RS197 works great on the ILL-Digital Starcom 700/800 system even with ver 1.7.....None of these upgrades have anything to do with better decoding.....

True. I think the feature which I've noticed the most is the "duplicate entry" upgrade. It's come in handy a few times. :)

Yes, the link is under the product support tab for the Pro197 as noted above.

It's dated June 22... not July 22,

but at any rate, at this time, clicking on the link still sends you back to the Radio Shack home page.

You can access another instance of the firmware update link under the product support tab for the Pro106, but the same error happens.

Someone else asked what the new firmware contains....

Just a *guess* that it might be the same or similar to the 2.1 firmware for the GRE PSR500 & PSR600:

----------------------------------

New in version 2.1
Fixed Marine, VHF, and UHF search frequencies

----------------------------------

.

I could see the marine fixed channels as being useful, even though I'm not near a waterway. :)

The link to v2.1 works now, as of 8/15/12.

According to the included PDF:
Fixed Marine, VHF, and UHF search frequencies

Lets try this again, the links for the download for the new 2.1 firmware is Fixed. ( RadioShack.com )

New in version 2.1
• Fixed Marine, VHF, and UHF search frequencies
What you will need to upgrade your radio
You will need the following items to perform the CPU firmware upgrade:
• The upgrade application file, which is normally supplied in a self-extracting ZIP
archive along with this documentation. To download the file, visit the RadioShack
Support Site, at RadioShack - mobile phones, MP3 players, laptops, and more.
• A RadioShack Catalog #20-047 or #20-546 USB scanner programming cable
• A personal computer running Windows™ 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7
• A 20-106 or 20-197 scanner in need of a CPU upgrade

Good Luck Everyone on your update.
Worked like a charm here.

Oh well, easy install to both my Pro-106 & 197.
