programming a Pro 197

having trouble programming a Radio Shack Pro 197. have the correct frequencies in a P25 system and the radio will scan but does not receive. I entered it under convential and not trunking, I need to erase old programming but cant get it to erase. it was used and had Ky SP in it.

From pages 92-93 of your PRO-197 owner's manual:

Initializing the Scanner to Factory Defaults

Note: This procedure clears all information you stored in the
scanner’s working memory, AND resets the global parameters to
factory defaults. Initialize the scanner only when you are sure the
scanner is not working properly. V-Scanner memory is not affected
when the scanner is initialized.

1. Turn off the scanner, then turn it on again.
The scanner briefly displays the DSP boot version, and then the
Welcome/Owner screen is displayed.
2. Press 0 while the scanner is displaying the Welcome/Owner
screen.
3. Press 1.
4. Press ENT.
5. Press any key on the keypad to proceed.
6. Press any key on the keypad to proceed. The scanner will reboot
with file system and global parameters reset to factory defaults.

I used WIN500 to program mine. If not programming a conventional frequency, there are a lot of details that need to be entered correctly.
