I have quite a number of times in the past, and recently, typed a reply on this website. After I hit the "Save Reply" some of my words are misspelled, or words run together.

In other words when I type up the message it is ok. When I post it...it is messed up.

The words and misspelling is not to bad, but still there is some problems. I told the admins some time back. I never got a reply.

Then....You have the people whom cannot type, or have bad grammar.

Seems like more and more posts are nearly impossible to understand. If I start trying to read one and it turns into jibberish, I just move on. If they don't care, neither do I.

I believe Admin and the Mods should be doing more to stop it though. But when gadget spamming is allowed within posts .......

Hi. How would the admin and mods go about this? I really don't think it's in their purview to correct bad English. They have so much to do as it is.

Unfortunately, this is, in my opinion, just one of those things in life that makes you grit your teeth, or shake your head and sigh, but that is about all you can do.

I mean, do you really want to become the Grammar Police?

I know I don't!

This not the only forum with poor spelling. i go in other ones and it is terrible. with all of the free spell checkers out there the question is why don't they use them?

Boot them off the site. Once the ChatSpeakers get booted off enough sites, they might decide to go back to school to learn how to communicate properly.

How would you like it if no body would talk to you on here for what you just said? people have disabilities for many reasons and because they have trouble spelling and or putting words together to form a sentence is no reason to boot them from any where. i know the people that run and manage this forum would never do this. I have a friend that got hit in the head with a can of peaches and got a closed head injury. before this he was a normal man and now he too has a problem talking spelling and eating. is this a reason to throw him away? of course not. so i would be a little more sensitive towards other human beings and their afflictions it is not their fault. remember it is easier to make a friend then an enemy.

Nobody is talking about the disabled. We're talking about lazy-assed chatspeakers who simply can't be bothered to type legibly.

For the disabled, there are a variety of tools from specialized spelling and grammar checkers to speech-to-text converters and more involved tools. Many are free or low cost or are covered by various programs.

I am not going to debate this with you. you don't know every one personally on here therefore you can't judge them.

Really, this thread was a rant about people who don't take the time or make the effort to spell check or produce proper grammatical English.

It's really not about people with learning disabilities or anything of the sort.

It's not spell-checking alone. To, too and two are all spelled correctly, but when I have to read a phrase (not even a whole sentence) 10 times to possibly understand what the poster is getting at, I have two reactions: 1) Why bother? and 2) This makes the US look like a functionally illiterate nation (unless the poster's native language is obviously not English). BTW, the reason many foreigners speak English better than most Americans is that they speak their own language properly, so they only have to learn English. Many of us still have yet to learn "language".

I won't list all of my pet peeves (I'd be permanently barred if I did), but language should be used to convey thoughts to others, not to demonstrate the poster's inability to think clearly. (Secondarily, it should demonstrate the poster's familiarity with the language. For instance, 'that' refers to inanimate objects, people are referred to using 'who' or 'whom'. Hemmingway didn't write "For Which the Bell Tolls".)
