POTUS in town 4/20

A Reminder POTUS will be in town on Wednesday for the Facebook town hall meeting.

Will be visiting both Palo Alto and SF.

Combat Air Patrol should be active, along with Palo Alto PD, BAYMACS, Santa Clara Co. Sheriff, San Mateo and SF systems.

Facebook's internal trunk system is MotoTrbo, so probably not much chance of monitoring that.

Note that CAP and tanker activity was noted on October visit, but not on February visit. I saw the KC-135 from AZ-ANG on the SFO ramp for the February visit a day or so before the visit. No tanker for the October.

Anyone know where AF-1 will land? All previous visits have been at KSFO. Wonder if he'll be at KNUQ this time?

Looks like he's using SFO again, and arrival window is Wednesday 12:30-1:45PM and departing Thursday 4:15PM.

Anyway, getting a bit of a chuckle that he is flying out here for a FB townhall meeting. They must not get FB in the WH? Isn't the point of the virtual town hall to save on travel?

Moffett has been used for presidential/VP/Secretary of State visits since being handed over to NASA.

The choice of SFO probably has to do with where Obama's first and last events in the Bay area are located. I think he has an event in SF proper before heading down to Palo Alto.

Last time he was out- they made an LZ at Canada College, rather than drive from SFO to Woodside & dinner with the likes of Steve Jobs & company. It worked out fine for everyone- locals and the entourage.

I suspect the same will happen in Palo Alto- plenty of great LZ spots off Page Mill Rd. near Hewlett Packard (and Facebook). AF1 lands fairly often at Moffet, so I dunno- must have something cooking up north.

Yesterday there were a number of military helicopters that were in the air at low altitude near Palo Alto/Menlo Park, so I bet the President will be flown in from SFO.

You are correct. I have jokingly called Moffett the William Jefferson Clinton International Airport. He was here quite often due to political concerns and because his daughter went to Stanford. I don't recall a Bush visit. And every Obama visit has been to SFO.

I took a little site visit to Facebook at 1601 California Avenue. PAPD has already posted 'No Parking' signs pretty much from the end of the road, north east to El Camino. If you take a look here:

...you can see several open areas and large parking lots that might get used as LZs

I tend to notice when Air Force One (or two) come into Moffett, since I'm at 1000' altitude, right underneath the Moffett approach and the planes are fairly low as they pass over Los Gatos as they enter the valley.

The C5A's and the Blue Angels are even more noticeable.

Took another spin around the area. I think the 1601 address is bad. There are City of Palo Alto barricades along Page Mill road too. Looks like they are trying to keep people out of the various parking lots. I saw them from foothill, almost to el camino.

The visit appears to be at this FB office:

Note that the parking lot is empty (building is vacant) and it provides convenient access to the FB building. There aren't any light poles and more dignified to have the POTUS walk out on asphalt.

Or at the soccer field. I'm pickng the soccer field second, since there are a lot of poles in the field that haven't been removed. I think they'd be a landing hazard.
