Has to be a conflict with another program, or something in the Windows configuration. Not sure DonS is going to be a lot of help, since most of us using Win10 have it working fine. Also very unlikely to be a drive or memory issue, since you would be having more trouble if either of those components were failing.

And if it is a conflict, it's going to be next to impossible to trace down unless you're willing to roll back to a clean state, install Win500 (and nothing else), and see if it works OK. Thanks, Microsoft!

Roll Windows back and have zero other programs? not worth it, too many other little programs I have accumulated that I might not find again from over the years that I use once in a while. I've done that several times in the past (Win 95, XP) because of major problems, a very big, time consuming project.

I'll give that PSRedit 500 a try, if that ends up doing it too, then I'll just listen to my Pro-197 as is until DELCO finally moves off of the system they have now, then decide if the exorbitant price of a new scanner is worth it.

Thanks for this suggestion.

Had a little time to use this today and it does work like Win500 used to and it is very similar in design. I couldn't figure out how to add talkgroups to a specific scanlist but at least got them on the same bank. Seems like some things have an extra step or two, to do some tasks, but overall I'm going to be able to use it like I had been using Win500.

Didn't want to open new thread if possible.
I'm rusty on my Win500. How to upload the NATIONWIDE
V-Tacs, U-Calls, etc. to my PSR500? I can find them listed
on RR, but can't find them in the dropdowns because you have
to pick a state and there is no nationwide.

"Nationwide" is the first selectable item on the state dropdown box. Right below the -select-

Not in the Win500 dropdown. Checked under Trunked & Conv.
Alabama is the first listed
Doing 'Web Import' from Radio Reference from Win500

Don't know which version you have, but, under conventional web import (from RR), Nationwide is exactly where I noted.

File->Web Import->RadioReference->Conventional Frequencies
Log in to RR
Make sure your United States is selected for country (I usually have to hit the 'Start' button again here before the selection options become active)

Click on the State/Province radio button
[Nationwide] is listed right under the -select-
Once you choose that, then the various choices will be shown in the Nationwide Agencies dropdown.
Win500 Version 2.08

Your version of Win500 is 1.94... I see the [Nationwide] entry on the conventional drop-down in my version, 2.08. Time to download and install the latest version.

Thanks. Do you need the KEY after updating?
I have it somewhere I hope.
Do you lose anything updating?

No, I never did. I ended up uninstalling it altogether and trying PSREdit500 as was suggested and it is very similar to the WIN500 program, so I purchased it and have been using it instead.

Recently I to have noticed a slow down in WIN500 performance. But while slower in opening and closing, it still works. As long as you're patient enough to wait for it to finish.

I'm pretty sure the reason for the slow down with WIN500 (and many other programs) has to do with Russian virus's that attack the cache's in Intel and AMD CPU's.

Late last year the Anti Virus folks found out that a group of Russian hackers found a way to get access to the Virtual Cache subroutines in the Intel and AMD CPU's. The Virtual Cache's were supposed to be hack proof. Another myth bites the dust. So now all of your private information could be captured by the Russian's hackers and downloaded into their servers.

The fix was to shut down most of the CPU's cache operations. That was done with a series of Microsoft and Apple updates starting in March and proceeding through April and May. FYI, not everyone gets all of the same updates at the same time. So the slow downs appeared to some sooner than others.

Currently the only known fix, will be for Intel and AMD to redesign the cache's in their next generation of CPU's.

For me it's just the WIN500 program. Nothing else seemed to be affected.

Question Win500 slowdown in Windows 10

I have been using Win500 forever. I just opened and ran it on my laptop, latest Firefox Browser and latest Windows 10 update. It has slowed way down to the point where it will freeze until it updates the information that I want to save.
This is the first time I have had a problem.
The hourglass appears and does not go away right away as before.
The program does work correctly but takes forever to update changes.
Does the program need a drivers update?

Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 1803 (build 17134.112)
Firefox Quantum 60.0.2 (64 bit)
I am on the latest version of Win500 also, have been since it came out. Version 2.08

Don you thoughts?

I just downloaded WIN500 to my desktop and ran the program. The same issues as the laptop- program works but is very slow.

If you can't get this resolved, consider trying PSREdit500. 30-day free trial:
PSREdit500 - Configuration Editor for the PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, and PRO-197 Scanners

FWIW I sent an email to Don via Starrsoft, never got a response.

I too tried to d/l fresh copies to my PC and laptop, slow semi-freezes all the time. I didn't have a half hour to complete a few tasks that should take a minute or two.. Finally gave up and went with the PSREdit500, paid for a license. It's interface is very similar to WIN500.

WIN500 was last updated in April 2015, doubt any more are coming.

PSREdit500 was last updated in January of 2018, seems to be staying fairly current.

I am using Win500 on Windows 10 without any problems whatsoever. I hope you get this figured out because I love Win500.
