So far I am very impressed with it. Might be me, but how the hell do you use the database features? I'm feeling stupid so forgive me; I think I'm getting a cold or something. Thanks.

ok, the 996 is on its way, and i need some software clarification.

currently using butel arc250 to work with the bc785d, and im very disappointed in the fact that i can only import frequencies, and not ctcss/dcs tones or alpha tags. copying tones from excel into arc250 also leaves me disappointed, because i need to manually fix every tone to get it to work.

the new proscan supports both my scanners (my current 785 and the soon to be 996), and that there makes a good case to buy this software. here are my two questions...

how good are frequency/alpha/tone import functions in proscan?

will the "import from RR database" be available by the time xmas rolls around??

I have been using ProScan with a 785D from the get go, but think you are unfair to Butel ARC250D as I just now imported a list of 12 conventional freqs from RR and all came in with tags and PL settings correctly. I followed that with Excel 2007 (it has Web Import) and structured the same data correctly in columns then used copy/paste without a flaw including PL's.

let me rephrase my situation with arc250...

i'm currently using version 1.1, and don't feel like paying another $30 to upgrade when i'm getting a new scanner in a few days that will require completely different software.

regardless of the import options for the latest version of arc250, how are the import mapping options for proscan?

Currently ProScan for the BC 996 does not contain any import features as I needed to get this version (containing the BC 996 support) out as quickly as possible.

ProScan Version 1.7 Build 2 will be out in about 2 to 3 weeks and will include the Radio Reference Database import feature along with a few bug fixes such as the Scanner Over IP server mode data / audio freezing problem and key pressing sending command twice to the scanner.

I will be adding more import features in future releases. Suggestions on importing would be helpful.

as far as suggestions for imports, a direct import from some common ARC (Butel) files would be nice. But, just download everything in your scanner to ProScan and you're done.

I love this app so far...cheaper then Butel software, works on more than one scanner model, streaming is built in (and works), look a Hell of a lot better...
...Gommert, should I continue? I know you're reading these, well, I hope you are.

I would also include UASD 996 imports, almost certainly. Between ARC780, 250, 996 and the UASD I think you'd pretty much cover it - perhaps add .csv files, too...73s Mike

[edit] Here's a format that should make more than a few cringe - Scancat Lite Plus files (yes, SLP is supposed to cover all these radios - of course, how well is a completely different question...)

One other suggestion would be better organization of the recordings. It's one feature of ARC software that I do like.

Organize the recordings in which way?
The recordings are organized per user’s suggestions. Of course there is always room for improvement.
It's been suggested that I have start and end times in the file name, I'll do that.
I just thought of this: Giving the .mp3 files a color in the grid.

I will be making the .mp3 files bit rate user changeable and adding ID3 tags to the .mp3 files.

maybe sort them in folders by date and hour. sometimes you may want to hear multiple agencies for the same incident at one particular time.

Currently I'm re-doing the Scanner Over IP Server & Client and the Audio In and Audio Out. I'm taking my time on it as I want it to be perfect. Once I'm done with that, I will finish up the RR import. It should be about a month for the next release.

From our wiki - the best way to answer this question is to look at the website...

http://www.proscan.org/index.htm

Programs like this enable one not just to up/download freqs (as Win96 does), but also to control the PC via the scanner for logging purposes (useful for finding new users, and something the PRO96 series cannot do due to firmware limits). This particular software also has its own client/server app built in, something that's rather rare in the industry. It can also record audio and mark the files for later retrieval - this is something the better software packages can also do, and enhances doing research when trying to log and identify something that's currently not known

Default GRE-500/600 Support?

Hi Bob:

I use Proscan with my BC796D and really love the software, especially the scanner over IP functionality (awesome!) and client-based recording. I just got a new GRE-600 and obviously would like to have a Proscan version for that one.

Any chance you will work to support the GRE line any time soon?

Thanks - Mike
