If you want to make a dipole for 157Mhz center freq cut each dipole leg to about .454m. Or you can make a ground plane from an SO-239 chassis connector by soldering a .454m wire to the center pin and 4 ground radials the same length to the screw holes on the connector flange. Or you could make a coaxial dipole by peeling back about .454m of braid back over some coax and exposing the same amount of center conductor. This can be placed inside PVC pipe for outdoor use and usually needs tuning and a few turns of coax at the base to make an RF choke. Or there are many surplus VHF marine antennas to choose from at very cheap prices.
