Could someone assist with the above? The antenna wire has a whiteplastic centre core with a thin copper wire in the center, surrounded by a wire mesh type of covering. My question is does only the white plastic centre core go into the BNC connector, or does the wire mesh covering also go into the connector? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It also depends on the connector - Twist-on, crimp, or solder assembly.

the shield or mesh as you describe it,grounds to the outside of the bnc connector with a crimped collar.
Radio shack should have packages with two in a pack. Be sure to mention the type of cable this going to be installed on! such as "RG59U" or "RG6U" This number should be printed on the cable.

Think of it this way.

The BNC connector has a center that is isolated from the outter part of the connector with a white
plastic sleeve.

So the center conductor of the coax goes to the center conductor of the connector
and the outer shield goes to the outer part of the BNC connector.

Try googling coax connections or connectors.

Good luck
