antenna for apartment

I'm in an apartment and not allowed to place anything outside my place.

I was wondering if the spider antenna from Bearcat could be mounted by a window,
or if there is an antenna for my situation?

A little more info, if you please - what band(s) are you interested in hearing, and do you have access to an attic? If you do, you're much better off, since the additional height could be helpful.

I'm in the 3rd. floor, right in the middle of San Diego, CA. I don't know what frequencies I want but it probably is a varity. I cannot put the antenne in an attic or anywhere outside my own apartment.

I heard that if I put the scanner near a window, and the Bearcat BCD996T will pick up just about anything I want. Also, just the antenna that comes with the unit is fine. But I saw, onthe internet someone place a wire mesh cone type by the window and that it worked great.
