I am currently using a Maxrad 1/4 wave UHF whip antenna on a Maxrad mag mount running 40 watts. I'm looking for another low-profile replacement that may perform a little bit better. I've narrowed it down to the following two (will go on the Maxrad NMO mag mount):
Maxrad MLPV450. It covers 450-512, unity gain, or
Antenex TRAB4503. It covers 450-470, but has a 3dB gain.
They are both about 3.5" high. Will either of them perform better than the standard whip? Anyone having success using them? I'm guessing the Antenex will perform better due to the the 3dB gain?
