Hi! I've been surfing the forum for about a year now and have been very impressed with the information available. I have an antenna installation question. I was recently given 2 Icom IC-M700 HF radios and a Barker & Williamson AC 3.5-30 Long Wire Dipole. There is also a ~20 fiberglass HF Whip that I have access to. The Dipole is currently attached to my fireplace and stretched across my yard in a L shape. I was wondering if placing the antenna in my attic in a U would be a usable mounting option. The system is for RX only until I get my HAM ticket. The redios are probably 15 years old but are brand new. There is also an Icom AT-120 antenna matcher for use with the whip, any suggestions on what type of connection wire to use from the antenna to the Icom?

Thanks!

Emailed B&W, they replied the next morning. Said that for RX purposes it should be fine. Would having the antenna stretched out straight have a large impact on RX quality? I know someone here has to have tried it.
