I lucked on a brand new old stock, i have to say I'm impressed with the deference. From the looks i think one of those ebl 9v lithium rechargeable batteries would fit, I'm hearing stations i have not heard in along time.

Do you think a mm or so of extra space is available in all dimensions in the battery compartment?

The EBL 9v is about a mm or so larger all the way around.

Ok,I've measured one of the EBL 9v batteries. It's .968" L to the top of the terminals,1" W and .906" thick.Comparing it to an Energizer Alkaline 9v it's .031" taller and about the same .031" difference in thickness. Basically 1/32 difference in those 2 dimensions between the two.

Will these fit the GRE without issue? I don't want to purchase one until someone can tell me they will fit.

They fit my smoke detectors fine,but not the ceiling fan remote.They fit in the compartment,but the cover's tab will break if you try to close it.

Ooops..

I made a big mistake in the conversions

L=.906"
W=1"
thickness=.656"

Sorry about that.

I opened mine up just now......only had change to measure......could shove 2 US Quarters on the bottom side of the battery and the case, and 3-4 on the side that the "cap" goes over. There is a bit of foam and such that can compress a little bit more even inside. These measurements were taken up to the point where the flimsy tin began to span a bit, not that that would affect anything, it's just a hollow tin with a board inside.

Well that sounds like there is easily enough room to fit these batteries with their extra .031/1/32" size difference.

Awesome!

Thanks.
