• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

    Sonim XP8 XPand Direct Mode

Thank you for the great information. I look forward to seeing the results of your purchase. I think it will be interesting to see what the range is on these. My best guess is that it will be very similar to the DTR/DLRs. At 1 watt and a small antenna, I don't think it is likely to vary much...

    Sonim XP8 XPand Direct Mode

This isn't GMRS/FRS, but this seems to be the best place for this. I am just wondering if anybody here would happen to have any experience with the Sonim XP8 smartphone and the optional XPand Direct Mode for off-network communication? Just to put this in perspective, I recently became interested...

    Metro Transit Talkgroup 2502

They must have had an assault of some sort. The microphone was "hot" for quite a period of time and you could here the audio of the witnesses and victims as they were using a lot of urban street language. If I recall correctly, the system they have set up is designed to do that very thing, too...

Is The Future Of Digital Voice A Transceiver With A SIM Card Built Into It?

Thank you very much for the replies. I must say that the Hytera PDC760 looks very good and the Rfinder H1B, !1 and K1 look great. I would love to see a dual-band version and have the price drop a bit. (Yes, I know, it is wishful thinking on my part.)

Is The Future Of Digital Voice A Transceiver With A SIM Card Built Into It?

As I was talking with someone yesterday and thinking about Network Radios and Amateur Radio Hotspots, I can't help but wonder if the future for digital modes will be a transceiver with the functionality of a digital hot-spot built into it. Think about it, a dual-band HT or mobile that has...
