• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

    Better audio from your scanner!

LMAO! These feet were marketed under RadioShack's Gigaware product line and were initially designed to be used to prop up the back end of a laptop computer. (P.S.: I've since dusted my desk!)

    Better audio from your scanner!

I had completely forgotten the add-on two-position flip-down feet I have on the 996 which I had bought at RadioShack several years back. The left one is fully deployed, and the right on shows the secondary position. They attach using the supplied foam adhesive tape. (The desk dust is very...

    Better audio from your scanner!

I've done that primarily because I don't care about the 20 year-old table they're on. :) As an alternative, you could use the rubber feet the brackets originally came with to provide some stability. Anyway, what the picture doesn't show are the external speakers behind the scanners. Even...

    Better audio from your scanner!

I use the mobile mounting bracket mounted beneath the scanner.

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

Yes, and I appreciate all the contributions! I am locating as many test points as possible to verify correct voltages. I'm also going to disassemble the front panel and check my previous work done when the EL panel was replaced. Perhaps there's a bad solder joint or connection somewhere there...

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

That thought occurred to me too, LOL. In reality, this scanner was given to me at no cost several years ago. Aside from that, resurrecting the PRO-2006 may be the equivalent of repairing a 35 year-old IBM Selectric typewriter. But, I'm gonna try anyway.

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

@dem1 and @Ubbe, that's great information! As time permits this weekend, I'll test what I can to verify the correct voltages. One correction to one of my earlier posts is that the speaker does, in fact, make a popping sound upon powering up the scanner. That wasn't obvious at first because the...

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

There is no pop, hiss, or any other audible noise when powering up the scanner. The LED above the Sound Squelch button does illuminate. I've disconnected from power and removed the battery. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

    Yes. No luck.

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

So far, I have disconnected and reseated all connectors (there are no ribbon cables in this model). I have applied pressure to every component I can reach while viewing the LCD for any activity. I have tightened all PC board screws. I have visually inspected all reachable capacitors for obvious...

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

Well that might account for the lack of any audio. But what would account for a blank display?

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

Yup. I did that to no effect.

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

I removed the battery and it tested good. But even with a bad battery and a wiped memory, the display would show that the 2006 was scanning all 10 banks and all 400 empty channels. The display is completely blank.

    Pro-2006: Unknown Problem

My PRO-2006 only gets occasional use, and for short periods of time. Yesterday, I powered up the scanner and the following occurred: The backlight was on, but there was no sound even with the squelch open; the LCD display was completely blank with no frequency, channel, or bank information; and...

    unication g4/5 questions

You can monitor a single talkgroup provided you have programmed it by itself into its own knob position.

    can somebody help

Try plugging a USB flash drive or other peripheral into the same USB slot to see if the computer recognizes that. You can also check Device Manager when plugging the cable in to see if it shows up under the Ports listing. When I plugged the cable for my PRO-651 that I bought from bluemax49ers...

    can somebody help

What version of Windows are you using? In most cases, newer Windows versions should recognize the cable and load the appropriate drivers without further effort on your behalf. That said, not all cable chipsets work with all versions of Windows.

    unication g4/5 questions

Since the programming of the pager is completely reliant on the provided software, I recommend you download the PPS software from the Unication website and test drive it in advance of purchasing a pager. (That is if you already haven't bought one.) The downloads for the G-Series pagers can be...

    SDS200 scanning volume

Welcome to the "wonderful world of scanning", haha. This is a common problem that is not scanner-specific, and has been addressed in the firmware of most scanners. Volume adjustments on a per-talkgroup/channel/frequency basis are common among both major manufacturers. I would suspect that your...

    Police trunked radio

There's nothing illegal about scanning trunked police transmissions in New York provided you're not doing so in your car. If you want to do that while mobile, however, that would require you have a ham license or special permit...
