• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

    BGE 800 MHZ P25 System

Hiding their operations from public scrutiny? They are a private entity, although they do serve a public interest.

    BGE 800 MHZ P25 System

There is a Motorola Solutions partner on Sulphur Springs Road that is doing a lot of the work for the project. They also had a bunch of radios for AACo in the shop when I was there getting an antenna installed earlier this summer.

    Worcester Radio Systems Issues Continue

Browsing though CAPRAD data, there are five 800Mhz channels in the 851-854 Public Safety only range are being considered for Worcester County to acquire. Not sure if they will be enough since Worcester currently has eight in their system, but the county did say that 4-5 of their current...

    Maryland FIRST 700mhz TRS

I was wondering about them - I hadn't heard anything on their dispatch TG for a while when transiting through the area, and I assumed they were now encrypted - could have been my programming though. Somewhat related: I stg that I hear Talbot Fire (and see Talbot Sheriff) a lot more often on...

    Maryland FIRST 700mhz TRS

Yes, the RRDB is accurate. Pretty much the only Eastern Shore law enforcement agencies that operate in the clear on FIRST are Kent County Sheriff, the state police, Natural Resources Police, and the Transportation Authority Police.

    Worcester Radio Systems Issues Continue

Small thought experiment: if the Worcester system is suffering from tropospheric ducting, would the reverse be the same? And would that not incentivize VA Beach to help with re-channelization by moving to (relatively) interference-free channels as well?

    Maryland FIRST 700mhz TRS

A new DNR TG has been showing up: 7582. Caught a short segment of one side of a conversation this afternoon, in the clear.

Not able to download from RR to Unitrunker

As noted in the linked thread above, RadioReference has very recently changed access to its database to a more secure mode which requires https. Unitrunker V 1.xx uses http to download data, and needs to be updated. The developer of Unitrunker stated in the linked thread that V 1.xx will be...

Want to Buy SDS-100 But have seen bad reviews with UHF & VHF analog

I have an SDS200 in the F-250 and with a gps, it cannot be beat in this region where P25 digital TRS's are king, and VHF is relegated to backup systems. 400 band UHF is long gone. It all depends on where you live, and what systems are in play.

    Worcester Radio Systems Issues Continue

Interesting. I mentioned TDMA in the sense that the channel carries two talkpaths, and channel interference could conceivably kill two separate conversations instead of one. I wasn't suggesting that that TDMA is somehow more vulnerable to interference, but maybe it is. Note that the ORION...

Trying to understand Baltimore City PD & FD Towers/Call Signs

What radio are you using? The Baltimore City radio system uses technology that makes it difficult to receive reliably without a radio specifically designed for P25 LSM systems. The system is simulcast, which means all sites are used to transmit and receive, and it is not uncommon for larger...

The county with the assistance of Federal Engineering have been conducting interference testing for several months, and apparently their findings differ from your opinion.

    Calvert Co VHF Patch Question

They were doing the same with the 800 TACs a few weeks ago. Why they are testing frequencies meant for mobile on street with portables in building, IDK. Maybe testing some BDAs?

    Maryland FIRST 700mhz TRS

Looking at the current / recent patch tables, I'm now thinking that 7546 is a state parks ops TG, possibly used by resident rangers. I've heard units calling on / off duty at various parks on 7565 when I'm on the Eastern Shore. 7546 is frequently patched with 7501 NRP Area 3 7565 DNR East...

    Worcester Radio Systems Issues Continue

Tropospheric ducting is caused by temperature inversions or layers of warm air a few thousand feet up, forming during times of high heat and humidity. It is a known phenomenon, more common in the east than the west, and especially in coastal areas. Apparently UHF frequencies in the 800 band can...

    Worcester Radio Systems Issues Continue

Some of us never had the luxury of having a portable assigned them.... back in the not so distant past (less than a decade ago,) each vehicle had one mobile and one portable. Some rural departments are lucky to have one radio.

    Worcester Radio Systems Issues Continue

Many jurisdictions in the Washington / Baltimore region use TGs on their TRS's for tactical / in building comms. Montgomery, Anne Arundel, Allegany and I suspect others sometimes use DVRS on their vehicles to bridge between their handhelds and the TRS. Additionally, building codes call for...

Virginia Beach ORION system band plan?

Quick question for those who monitor the Virginia Beach site on the ORION system. Worcester County Md is reporting frequent tropospheric ducting interference on their new Harris P25 P2 system that shares 7 (of 8) frequencies with the Virginia Beach site. Users are unhappy, and their county...
