    NYPD CW 2

Yep, the old RF guys are becoming a thing of the past. Today radio guys are IT guys, which is fine for half of it. Get to the fundamentals of RF to make a system work and you get the deer in headlights stare. I can make a comfortable living with just a service monitor and a truck full of notch...

    NYPD CW 2

Biggest problem with tone remote other than dealing with leased lines BS is 2 tone paging. There are certain paging tones that simply will not work, it’ll just dump the transmitter. Can’t tell you how many times “radio companies” Couldn’t figure out the problem in my area.

    Harris XL400 ?

I'm willing to bet the 400 will come in at around 9-10K for a nicely optioned radio. The Mot 8000XE today is a 10K radio fully optioned. NFPA1802 XE will probably be 15K or more I'm willing to bet. Still doesn't make it right. Still insanely priced for a portable radio no matter how you slice it.

    Termination Panel

That Black box allows for remote control of the radio (TX/RX). It's similar to a tone remote adapter only with more limited functions as it sends current instead of tones to tell the radio what to do. At one point there had to been a console or a DC handset in other parts of the station that...

    Icom F6020 HELP!

Also, when checking voltage make sure you check it across the positive and negative of the power cord. Don't ground the meter elsewhere and check just the positive.

    Icom F6020 HELP!

Check the voltage at the back of the radio during transmit. Make sure it's adequate and not causing the radio to "fold down". It may read fine just sitting receiving because it doesn't draw hardly anything. If good, your next step would be a wattmeter to check RF power out and the antenna...

    Harris XL400 ?

And plastered across the trunk lid of their Ford escort with a exhaust that's held up with a coat hanger an inch off the ground. Can't forget the yellow light bar!

    Harris XL400 ?

I know of a small City not far from me just bought all it's officers APX NEXT radios at 15K a pop. As a taxpayer I feel my hard earned money is being COMPLETELY wasted, and the fact of the matter is I know I'm right. Whats going to happen is LMR systems are going to become to costly to run. 10...

FYI: QUEENS FIRE RADIO / FDNY

It is. Take a standard A style household LED bulb from Walmart and sweep it with a spectrum analyzer, you'll note a lot of radiated garbage up to about 300Mhz. Above that it's fairly clean. This seems to be the trend with most electronic devices.

FYI: QUEENS FIRE RADIO / FDNY

The noise floor on VHF in a city is INSANE an it isn't from other people on VHF, it's all the garbage that radiates RFI and today that's pretty much everything. My small city had to move off VHF because you couldn't even hear the transmitter on a adjacent hill that overlooked the city while...

Practical benefit of feedline upgrade to improve receive.

Why not just do a very basic desence check to start? All you need to do is inject a weak signal into the receiver while listening to a local speaker from the receiver. You can then fire off the transmitter and see if you hear any degradation to the signal. Do this test with everything hooked up...

Buyers Beware - Robert Dobbelaere for anything he lists for sale

As crappy as it is to pay extra fee's, services like Paypal are much easier to deal with in the event of a scam. I've done a few claims myself and got all my money back no questions asked.

Buyers Beware - Robert Dobbelaere for anything he lists for sale

Maybe it's just me, but it seems every scam on craigslist, FB marketplace, here, etc always use @gmail.com.

Rugged Radios finally gets an FCC Smack-Down

"Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber......... you go and do something like this............ and totally redeem yourself!" That's a direct quote from Dumb n Dumber movie, I can only imagine them playing out this scene at that radio shop.

Rugged Radios finally gets an FCC Smack-Down

Besides the fact how insanely stupid this is, why would they set it up at their shop and not at the hospital itself?

password protected Icom IC-F6011 ... how to reset or overwrite??

Eh, I'm not so sure about that, at least on the newer equipment. Usually the radio will still retain the codeplug after a firmware update. Once in awhile it'll wipe it clean and display "clone NG" but not typically.

Rugged Radios finally gets an FCC Smack-Down

This. It's funny, I bet a majority of the "legacy" repeaters and equipment the FCC referenced back during the whole GMRS review are not part 95 certified.

Directed RF at our Office Causes Headaches

Seriously though, have you checked things like air quality?

Directed RF at our Office Causes Headaches

I wouldn't be concerned about that small amount. Is it possible all the employees have spouses, thus the headaches?
