    Shenandoah County new radio system

The basic design of that scanner goes back at least 15 years, when it was a GRECOM product. It works on STARS (for now) because STARS is an older digital system still using Phase 1. The WS-1040 and WS-1065 are the least expensive digital scanners on the market but they lack the capability of...

    SIRN

OP25 works well on simulcast. I've never used it on SIRN specifically.

Digital or analog scanner in Augusta and Rockingham county

Augusta, Staunton, and Waynesboro are going away from analog and upgrading to a new system that will be jointly shared. All new public safety systems are some flavor of digital. With a digital scanner, you can also listen to the National Park Service. Save your money and get a new or used SDS...

Radio system upgrade in Botetourt County

Except the state charges a lot of money to be on STARS. All indications are the state wants to keep STARS predominantly a state agency system.

    NEW TO SCANNING

Those seven frequencies are available in the database in Radio Reference under Nationwide > National Weather Service. You ought to be able to download them from the Radio Reference database. Exactly how you would get to the Nationwide section in psredit, I'm not sure. While I had that...

    NEW TO SCANNING

The last I saw, nobody was able to obtain a license for Starrsoft anymore. Another option is Butel's ARC500 software. I think I tried all three options in the past and to me, they seemed fairly similar. Regarding the keys - that may be a reference to the software license keys, which are...

    TRX-1 Quit receiving Albemarle Co

I didn't notice the county had its own system when I first checked. I did some searching through the NC forum and learned that agencies within the county are using a mixture of VIPER and the county system. Greenville city is apparently in the process of migrating from VIPER to the county...

    TRX-1 Quit receiving Albemarle Co

Yep, they use VIPER there and the Greenville VIPER site is NOT simulcast. So while it may have common frequencies with Albemarle, it is a completely different type of system. In Greenville, your TRX would have been receiving a clean signal from one tower on a given frequency. In Albemarle...

    VDOT Radio Frequencies

Yep, VDOT has been missing from scanners in the Fredericksburg area for a few years. I had checked with the spokesperson for the local VDOT district and she confirmed they no longer use two way radios on a regular basis anymore. I believe she said they were only a backup now. Not surprising...

Macomb County Police,EMS Fire (Provider Audio coming through)

Do we know for sure it is being transmitted on a radio channel or could the provider's input have switched from a line in from the scanner to a computer mic? Both are possible.

King George Migrating to 700 MHz P25

I haven't searched for a new control channel, but I can tell you they are still using their old system. I don't know the timeline, but don't be surprised if it takes 18 months to two years for the new system to be built and tested. Could be even longer.

Mass Casualty Event Lewiston/Lisbon Maine Suspect on Run, 22 Dead

Fox News is reporting now that the person of interest may have a scanner in an attempt to track police movements. Unconfirmed, of course.

    Muting Quick Call Tones

It is SDR - Software Defined Radio. OP25 is one of several SDR options. A NooElec dongle is used for acquiring the signal.

    Muting Quick Call Tones

I will add that I am using an older version of OP25, so I can't say for sure what the latest and greatest version does.

    Muting Quick Call Tones

With the OP25 scanner software I use, the digital alert tones are not decoded as tones but instead come out as quiet "clicks". The computerized voice that follows on one of the systems is fairly loud, but there are no tones.

Missing audio options for live feeds?

Putting the static URL in WMP worked for me. @belvdr, if you right-click near the top of Windows Media Player to reveal the various menu options, and go into the File menu, you can choose "Open URL..." and enter the URL.

Missing audio options for live feeds?

Without getting into the nitty-gritty details, the problem isn't the browsers themselves but rather workplace security settings that do not allow audio to be played within a browser without frequent interruptions. The static URL plays in the browser as well, so it has problems too.

Missing audio options for live feeds?

Thanks for the confirmation. But the embedded browser players don't work for everyone.
