A few older commercial tabletop receivers extend down to 10 kHz, the Bearcat DX-1000 will, the Sony CRF-1 will go lower still. I never had a Realistic DX-300/302 but I have heard that they do indeed receive these VLF frequencies.

I love my DX-1000 and will never get rid of it. It has weaknesses but if you take the time to find it’s strengths it is a very good receiver.

I bought a Sony ICF-6800W to have the analog plus digital display. I got lucky, a previous owner corrected the known PLL problem (and added an extra audio output). Great radio but known to have failures.

I find that 15' is the mininum height for a HF wire receive antenna, but if you can raise it higher definitely do it As for the coax, higher frequencies have greater attenuation on long runs which is why LMR-400 etc is used for UHF and higher frequencies. For HF RG-8X is very good
